He may have been desperate and couldn't hold it any longer as someone was hogging the bathroom. Put a time limit on the door with rules if your a multiple family with one bathroom. First thing in the morning everyone gets only 5 minutes to brush teeth, go pee and poop, wash hands.

Was every bathroom in use when he desperately needed one?

Hair drying and makeup or changing clothes gets done in bedrooms not bathrooms so shower time is 10 minutes which is plenty enough time to thoroughly wash and rinse and dry off. This will lessen the time people are using the bathroom for unnecessary things and open the door to things that are absolutely necessary like going potty. Takes some getting used to.
